Thermograph: SYRCL LY Weekly Average Temperature 2009

Chart Caption:
The maximum weekly average temperature (MWAT) in the Hammon Backwater of the Lower Yuba River in 2009 was 15.3 degrees C, and temperatures were even cooler in the main channel at Hammon Bar. The rise in charted temperature for the top backwater site during September is the result of exposure to air following a precipitous decline in river flow following the end of the summer water transfer period. These water temperatures were highly suitable to salmonids. The thresholds for temperature stress come from the report: Upper Yuba River Watershed Temperature Criteria for Chinook Salmon and Steelhead (Stillwater Sciences, 2006).
