Foothill Yellow Legged Frog (FYLF) and egg masses observed on Shady Creek. FYLF is a California Species of Special Concern that depends entirely on habitat in streams and rivers. Recent efforts to resume mining operations at the San Juan Ridge Mine that discharges into Shady and Spring Creek could jeopardize this habitat by altering hydrology, channel morphology, riparian vegetation and water quality. SYRCL responded to these efforts by conducting extensive surveys on Shady Creek in 2013 to assess the extent of FYLF populations and the breeding season. Surveyors counted 134 adult frogs and 34 egg masses on a one mile stretch of Shady Creek from lat April to mid-June.
